Abstract

Water coming through the mechanical acrylic lid on the OLTC (On Load Tap Changer) will contaminate the transformer insulating oil. Contaminated oil will damage to the transformer. To reduce the damage caused by water contaminants to the insulating oil, a study was carried out to find out how big the water contaminants impact on the breakdown voltage characteristics of the transformer oil insulation. In this study, has implemented the experimental method using the BAUR Oil Kit Tester, and the water contaminants given were H2O and super O2 water. Based on the standard breakdown voltage value of insulating oil (SPLN 49-1:1982) (SPLN, 1982), insulating oil has a breakdown voltage value of ≥ 30 kV/2.5 mm. For the H2O water contaminants that were given as much as 1 ml, the decrease in the value of the breakdown voltage was obtained by 31.5%, and this experiment was carried out up to 10 ml, where the value obtained decreased until it was far from the SPLN standard. Meanwhile,  he breakdown voltage value obtained from research using super O2 water contaminants decreased by up to 68%. The greater the amount of water contained in the transformer insulating oil, the lower the quality and breakdown voltage value of the insulating oil.
